Frequently Asked Questions

In response to the evolving times, we've put together some answers to common answers our customers have.

What copy protection does Riptide use?

Any lover of digital books will, by now, have heard horror stories about purchased books vanishing off e-readers because a publisher or an author has changed their licensing. We don't do that here. When you purchase from RiptidePublishing.com, you get access to a file without copy protection- you can put it on any device you want, forever.

We do this to give our customers peace of mind, but please note that it makes us vulnerable to piracy. Though you can share your ebooks with your friends, we ask that you please don't.

What is Riptide's stance on AI?

We do not use generative AI. A book published by Riptide is brainstormed and written by humans. If you submit a manuscript to Riptide, it will be evaluated by a human and, if accepted, edited by a human. Our summaries and tags are done by humans. Our staff is paid for their work. And our cover art is, of course, made by paid artists, without the use of generative AI.

Books licensed by Riptide are not licensed for AI training. In a political climate that favors tech billionaires over artists, we will fight to the best of our ability on behalf of authors whose books were stolen for this purpose.

Where can I find my purchased books?

After getting your confirmation email, you can visit your bookshelf to see your purchased books. If you have lost your password, changed your email, or are unable to log in, please use our contact form to get help.

I really want to read your books, but I can't afford them right now.

We understand this is an especially difficult time, not just financially but also emotionally, especially for our LGBTQIA+ community. There are two ways to read our books for free that do not cause harm to our authors, illustrators, or editors.

1) Our books are carried on every available digital library platform. Some library services, like Hoopla, do not even require your library to purchase a copy; you simply request a loan, and the book will be made available to you. Other library services do require the library to purchase a copy, but even if your library hasn't done so yet, they will almost always fulfill requests from their patrons. Just ask for what you want, and they'll do their best to get it for you. (They may even order a paperback, if you ask.) All creatives get fairly compensated by library lends, and given the current political climate, it's more important now than ever to support your local library by circulating books, as well!

2) We sometimes gift copies of ebooks and audiobooks to readers. It's a small gesture, but one way to help our trans siblings in the face of state-sanctioned terror is to make queer joy available to them for free. If you are trans and would like a book, please let us know! For everyone else, we will sometimes make books available in exchange for an honest review. This could be on a blogging platform, on social media, in print, or even sometimes just on Amazon. We may not always approve these requests, but it certainly can't hurt to ask!
